Alright, I won't be talkin more, here you got real tests made on real games so you can see that ati 5830 outperforms gtx 460 1gb and even 465 in games like Crysis or Aliens vs Predator. Games that were made specially for nvidia cards are crappy and not worth to buy a graphics card for it. You can find hundreds of such test in the internet (you can do it by yourself) where is clear that best games (Fallout 3, Mass Effect 2 and many more) performs better on ati.
http://www.tomshardware.de/geforce-gtx-4...96-10.html
and yes even 3d mark vantage shows advantage of 5830 over both gtx 460 and 465. Maybe it's true that gtx 460 is not a bad card but 5830 is for sure better.
In cpu case I would go for Phenom II 965 rather than i5 750 or if you really want to have intel i3 550, i5 660 or i7 875K. 2.66GHz cpu is not what I would like to have for my own and I'm affraid you neither.

well i checked all the games tested in the link you gave and not only one or 2 like you... in half of them nvidia has more performance and the other half ati does.... doesnt that mean that they are ati favored games like as you said the same as nvidia? also tomshardware is not a gaming benchmark site... guru3d is devoted on that so probably more accurate. also as it seems you never look at other results like: temps, noise, power consumption... something that nvidia wins by far....

(always talking for gtx 460 when i say nvidia... and for ati=5830)

and also something i was able to look into today was the bad scaling ati cards where doing with crossfire, nvidia was outperforming even 5850 and some times even 5870 (with both nvidia and ati cards in CF/SLI ofc...)

http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gt...li-review/

read all of it and not just the parts you want... and dont think just as a funboy but look at the actual numbers cause those are what it really counts... (and btw the cards in sli are 768mb.... if they where the 1gb version (like the ati ones...) imagine even bigger difference in favor of nvidia...)

I've checked many of tests because I'm planning to change my old 4770 for something better. That is why I'm just sure that if I had to choose between gtx 460 and ati 5830 I would go for a second one without even bit of hesitation. But everyone makes his own decisions.

I'm gonna overclock the i5 750 to 4 GHz. Many people have been able to get it that high, stable, on air, with a big, push-pull, dual-fan heatsink, and at reasonable sound levels too.

I wouldn't mind going to the AMD camp, but, if i read the faqs right, they don't support either GSDX SSE 4.1 or GSDX SSSE 3 with PCSX2 properly, so I'd be limited to GSDX SSE 2.

Also, the GSDX guy seems to prefer Intel and nVidia over AMD/ATI and I'd like to future proof as much as my budget allows. Tongue2

I'm currently playing around with an AMD Athlon II X2 240, that my brother gave me this morning. The stock clock speed on it is 2.8 GHz, but I've managed to get it overclocked, stable, at 3.5 GHz.
Pro Tip: Manually Enter Memory Timings!

I've been testing FF XII for the past few hours.
My FPS vary, from 60 to 35-ish (@ 1080p), but at native res, the lowest fps i've gotten was in the mid 40's.
I'm using an nVidia 8600 GT (with only 512 mb of graphics ram), and 2GB of system RAM.

At this point, I'm not sure to what extent the overclocked x2 240, and/or 8600 GT video card, are limiting performance.
Also, I'm in XP SP3. Haven't tested or purchased Win 7 yet.

Anywho, it's a lot of fun to play around with this temporary rig.
I'm looking forward to be able to get that GTX 460. (Hurry up, already, EVGA!) I'm gonna test it on this rig before I get the other stuff, JUST IN CASE all I need is the video card. If so, I can save lots of monies... Unsure

I smell AMD/ATI fanboy in here.

For PCSX2 I would actually not recommend either, but to get the 5850. If you must save that extra 50 bucks, the 768mb GTX 460 is a great buy with some overclocking.

Wacko Didn't see your post till just now ~
I've already ordered a GTX460 (1 GB) and it will be here by Wednesday (July 21'st)!
I'll let ya'll know how it fares after I get to use it for a couple of days. Happy

And yeah, he may be a fanboy, or at least someone who didn't read the OP, cause he woulda seen, that I had written that, I only care about PCSX2 Performance for this particular build. Tongue

Oh, By the way, is the ATI HD 5850 at least 2x better than the GTX460, when it comes to PCSX2?

no way that can happen....

the only way to know is comparing them.... until now nvidia cards have worked better with pcsx2 by fair amount... so probably thats the answer!

He he he, I'm not a fanboy of anything, in computer hardware case most important thing for me is speed and quality in 1920x1080 resolution since I'm using 46 inch screen as a monitor. In the last time it happened that amd-ati platform gives best results and quality, gtx 460 is just something from nvidia that finally can be comparable with ati cards in low-mainstream class. As far as I've noticed in post title u've written that you want a card to run games in 1080p. If u value more opinions from people that haven't even seen a screen with native resolution of 1080p and have no idea how much important is quality of picture on such huge screen I don't care. You've asked so I gave u an answer from my personal experience.

it doesnt compare with low-mainstream ati cards... it compares with 5830 and 5850 (somewhere in the middle), you can read the posts above if you want and also check the review i have posted! as for full hd there are more users that got it Tongue (i am at 1920x1200 and thats higher), for a fact the 1gb version is made for full hd.

I have a ATI 5570, and it can run near all the PCSX2 games at full speed and 1080p.
I really don't understand your discusion here. Almost all (99.99%) of the new GPU cards can run PCSX2 just fine. (with no AA, but.. it works xD)
