core 2 series are 775 socket mobo.. and it must be ddr2 mobo with pci-e slot and DDR2 slot for memory which is ddr2... well here is an example of what i mean.. try searching Asus P5kpl-Am its the mobo im using.. it can give your more information.. but for the record.. core 2 are for 775 mobo..

if you have the budget then go for i3/i5/i7. socket 775 is already outdated.

i5/i7 are not that expensive if you compare with core 2... and 1366 or 1156 mobo's are better for upgrades and in their technology in general...

Short answer: No.


Long answer: Maybe with speed hacks if you don't mind the game running much slower than real time.

It's kinda stupid to get a Core 2, especially if you're already looking at a new mobo. I currently see an i3 530 for $5 less than an E7500, or an i5 650 for only $10 more than an E8400.

Unless you're looking for a cheap upgrade for a 775 mobo you already own, it's Core i all the way.
