Read first: Will PCSX2 run fast on my computer?

Either or. Seems like newer laptops are coming with Optimus. If you've got a discrete GPU, then that's what's going to get used during graphics intensive tasks. How that's determined, though, is beyond me... Maybe 3D load? Anyway, the integrated GPU isn't gonna help much. It's basically the equivalent of a GeForce 6600 (no GT). I think using GSDX in software mode would be a better alternative. I tried the CPU benchmark posted in the hardware section using DirectX 10 Hardware mode and my readings actually dropped (forgot by how much, will have to check screenshots) compared to using software mode. Granted it's not really the best scene/game to use and results may differ quite a lot in a game that's more GPU-bound.

So many standard laptops come with i7-720qm.. Its hard to find one under $1200 that comes with i7-620m and a good graphic card.

i have been looking around and narrowed my choices to these 4 setups all within my budget of $1200. which one would get the best performance on the pcsx2?

i7-620m w/ hd5650 (pretty sure its this one..)
i5-430m w/ hd5850
i7-72qm w/ hd5870
p-8700(oc'ed to 2.9ghz) w/ gtx 260m

@ dudex: The one you're pretty sure it is. About as good as the P8700 OC'd, even without Turbo Boost.

@ ilovejedd: I was wonder what GPU you used in the FFX-2 benchmark(s). Could you possibly post your system's spec on your sig or in your profile? Also, I'll assume you used your Core i3 rig when you tried Hardware mode...

the i7 620m would be better than the 8700 OC'D?

Intel Core i3-530 and Intel GMA HD (733MHz) - that's what's integrated in Clarkdale. Needless to say, I was using DirectX software mode for the benchmark. Just tried DirectX hardware mode to see if I'll see an improvement. Apparently not. It's not really my PC, though. It's an HTPC built for my parents. Still waiting on a Mini-ITX motherboard from Gigabyte before I can do my build (Gigabyte H55N-USB3/Intel Core i7-860/GT240 GDDR5/4GB DDR3 1333).

@ShootingStars
Yeah, that i7-620M at stock should actually work around as fast as the P8700 oc'ed to 2.9GHz.

Okay I found a laptop with the right things. An i7-620m and the http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvs_techspecs.html NVS 5100m. Will that work? It says the 5100m is based on the 330m...

I've come to the conclusion that a NVS 5100m falls somewhere right between a GT 230M and a GT 330M. Aside from the Memory Speed (which I have yet to find... Okay, now I found it Smile), most specs are the same for the 230M to the 5100m. The clock speeds do run a little higher (this is what's right between the 230M and 330M as seen below), both have 48 pipelines, 128 bus width, 1gb dedicated video RAM, 25 GB/sec memory bandwidth, etc... I do see the 5100m listed with "DDR3" while the 230M (or 330M) has "GDDR3". I'm honestly not sure how big an impact that would make, or if the higher clock speeds compensate for that.

I guess it depends on the price. I should be enough for most games (my best guess). But, you might wanna consider it the equivalent of GT 230M as far as PCSX2, as a GT 240M or GT 330M should out perform it.

----GT 230M has 500Mhz Core Speed and 1100Mhz Shader Speed 800Mhz Memory Speed
-NVS 5100M has 550Mhz Core Speed and 1210Mhz Shader Speed 800Mhz Memory Speed
----GT 330M has 575Mhz Core Speed and 1265Mhz Shader Speed 1066Mhz Memory Speed
