Read first: Will PCSX2 run fast on my computer?
I have the choice between two systems (a laptop and a desktop), and for my uses it really doesn't make a difference which I pick. That said, I do want to run pcsx2, and I figured a quick opinion could help me make up my mind.

System 1 (desktop):
AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4 GHz
Ati 5850 gpu
4gb ram

System 2 (laptop):
Intel Core i7 2670m 2.2 GHz
Nvidia 560m gpu
8gb ram

The desktop wins out in other gaming benchmarks, but I know Intel cpu's perform better here, and a quick google search showed some issues with the 965. Mainly want to play a few of the big games (FFX and XII, KH 1 and 2). Sorry if this isn't the best place to ask.

your desktop will perform better because of its higher clock rate
use latest svn and enable mtvu hack since you have more than 2 cores
CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 3800X
Mobo : Asus PRIME B450-PLUS
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
RAM : 16 Go

im curious whether my laptop can run well in pcsx2 0.9.8

CPU: AMD E-350 DUAL CORE 1.6GHz

v-card: AMD radeon HD 6310

RAM: 3gb

And plz tell me what do i need to improve if needed Smile

No the cpu is far to slow and it's an AMD so that will cause another huge performance hit, the video card is also low end.

Your cpu won't be strong enough to get playable speeds in most games

The desktop certainly wins in most normal PC gaming,
since the CPU is less of a factor at that point.

With PCSX2,
I am certain the laptop would do a good bit better (faster),
considering a Turbo Boost of 2.8Ghz-3.0Ghz (four or two core).
That would easily surpass a Phenom II @ 3.4Ghz per-clock.

But then again,
If you were to overclock that Phenom to about 3.8-4.0Ghz,
it would be about equal in terms of processing power, with a bit better GPU.

I think I'd go with the laptop.
It certainly will be enough for the games you've mentioned,
as well as most PS2 emulation (even what some consider heavy).

Games that don't need a strong CPU to emulate are your only chances.
Some of those could actually prove too much,
even with Speedhacks.

Your integrated GPU will be a big bottleneck of it's own,
and could even hold back your processor's capabilities,
even at native res.

A better system is needed for most PS2 emulaion,
especially if you want it to be enjoyable,
and easier to do so.

Its good to see that Rezard has a fair amount of respect for Laptop potential these days, and is helping to dispel the misguided and ignorant notion that only desktops are capable of emulating demanding games. In this case the AMD Phenom II x4 965 3.4 GHz would get massacred by the low level SB i7 2670qm which turbo's at 2.8Ghz (3-4 cores). The Phenom would need to be overclocked to around 4 Ghz to even be in the same league as an entry level mobile i7 Cpu..

The top end gaming laptops featuring 2920/2960xm extreme processors can easily fight solid overclocked desktop Cpu's like the i5 2500k or i7 2600k. Here are some scores for fully stable overclocks with a commonplace and rudimentary 2920xm @ 4.6 Ghz with 580m sli http://3dmark.com/3dm06/16048339 , a solid 2920xm overclocked @ 4.9 Ghz with 580m sli http://forum.notebookreview.com/8257728-post676.html , an impressive 2920xm @ 5.1ghz with 6990m xfire http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2022547 , and an elite 2960xm overclocked @ 5.3ghz with 580m sli http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2234845 .

With the introduction of higher clocked Mobile Ivy Bridge Cpu's, and the roughly 10% Performance Per Clock over SB, even sub $1000 laptops should have impressive emulation results. While a decent dedicated graphic card would still be ideal for higher resolutions, those on a budget would still get adequate performance from the new HD 4000 Igp, roughly between that of a 525m-540m. The days of laptops being vastly inferior to desktops in regards to Pcsx2/Dolphin are over, and its nice to see members like Rezard grasping that fact.

There are many games I would like to play on my computer since my PS2 will remain at my parents place. How do you believe my laptop would fare in general?

Game examples : Dragon Quest VIII, Persona 4, other Atlus games, the Ape Escape games, Ico etc.

Toshiba Qosmio x770-124 specs (my laptop)
1600x900p screen
Intel i5-2430m - 2.4 ghz (3.0ghz in turbo mode?)
4gb RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M - 1.5gb GDDR5

@SlickDragon
At the same price point, desktop PC at will massacre laptop in term of performance. That is something that will never change.

I don't think he was asking how much better a desktop could be.
(A fact that floats all around these forums a lot...)

I'd say it would fare quite well.
You got 2.3Ghz at base,
and 2.7Ghz possible from Turbo (3.0Ghz is just for 1 core usage).
That puts it in the area of many 3.0Ghz+ processors.
You could expect around 46-54fps from yours on the PCSX2 Benchmarks.
(You would pull more than 50fps with most games.)

That GPU should never hold you back,
with the only exception of extra resolution.

I'm thinking you'd find most, if not all of what you mentioned, playable. Smile
