You will be able to run many of the Games at good speed. By the Way, what games are you trying?

I have an i7 930 running at a stable 4.0Ghz which runs things very well in PCSX2, I'm thinking about selling my current high end PC and get a mid range one since I barely ever play PC games on it, will always be a console gamer lol.

My question is, what's the equivalent clock speed in the sandy bridge core i3 and i5 processors to match the 4.0ghz first gen i7 clock speed?

I doubt that would be cost effective, it would end up costing more then what you could sell the old system for, and you would end up with an I5 no hyperthreading + you would need an unlocked processor to oc it, the only thing you would get better is the AVX instruction set but I still dont think that'd be worth it alone.

the i5-2300 or i5-2500 would be the best bet to match the i7 4 ghz oc speed.

You might as well wait a month or so and upgrade to an Ivy Bridge rig, even locked processors should surpass your current rig if that's what you desire. A solid budget friendly bet of next gen specs would be the i5 3570k ($225), matched with a top performer per $ graphic card like Amd's GCN 7850($250). Regardless of what you do waiting to sell your rig will likely lead to its value further depreciating, but on the plus side prices of new technology inevitably goes down.

Based on the PCSX2 benchmarks, it looks like a Sandy Bridge just under 4.0Ghz would about match your current @ 4.0Ghz.

Quote:78.40 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i5 2500K - 4.0 GHz OC
75.29 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i7 920 - 4.0 GHz OC
71.11 FPS - SLUS 20672 - Intel Core i5 2400 - 3.7 GHz OC

This could be achieved by a non-K i5-2500,
or just about by an i5-2400,
on a P67 or Z68 motherboard.

Thanks for replying guys.

That's pretty weird, as far as I know from what I've read SB processors are like %30 faster than 1st Gen i7 processors when you're comparing them clock for clock, I figured a 3.1 or 3.2 GHz SB quad would match the performance of a first Gen i7 @4ghz, guess it'll need a bit more than that, at least for PCSX2 looking at those FFX-2 CPU benchmarks.

Also, a dual SB processor would perform a bit slower than quad SB processor if both are running PCSX2 with the same clock speed, right? I'm assuming that's the case because PCSX2 mainly uses 2 cores and when you're using a dual core processor some resources are being used by other stuff on your PC instead of fully focusing on the emulation.

Hello, I've gotten your emulator to work in the past but I'm finally getting back into it since my PS2's controllers are dying and my console is getting really old, I can't afford to get a new one. I'm trying to run my game's from the disc drive since I don't download roms and I'm wondering if the game Odin Sphere can run on my processor with some tweaking or speed hacks with no issues since I really wanna play it.

It's an Intel ® Core ™ i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40GHz 2.39GHz and I have 3gb of ram. I'm playing on a laptop with Windows 7 as well in case that's the problem. If it can't run on a laptop no matter what I'd like to know. Also can it be damaging to my processor if I play for long periods of time, like 3-4 hours of play time in a row or something? Also I'm not sure what graphics card I have, if anyone knows where I can find the name of it on the computer lemme know.

you shouldn't be. Tongue2

Do any of them

1) Right Click on Desktop --> Screen Resolution --> Advanced Settings and you should have the Graphics Card name there.

or

2)Goto Start --> Run --> type dxdiag --> display. Tongue2

No it should damage your processor as long you don't overheat it. Check the Temp.

Haha, thank you Recoder, I have an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 550v, sounds kinda weak. This laptop was 800 bucks, had to buy 4 new computers and I never had a laptop before so decided to get one.

Will it help if I overclock my cpu? and how much should I overclock and will there be a big difference?
