The gs plugin with 6 cores can use 5 threads, no diminishing returns with that
.
(I thaught there would of been but there's not)
The 965be can get to 3.8ghz, but it's usually with a high end air cooler or water.
So you might not reach it, might end up getting 3.6 instead
.
I almost baught one myself for my dfi 790fx ut board...
The 1090t.
I've seen people use 1.4v for 4ghz.
I didn't need quite that much.
Here's my cpu test info:
2750 11x 1.000000v, 1.04v DMM (might beable to go lower but I'm not really interested in this multi anymore)
3000 12x 1.037500v, 1.07v DMM
3250 13x 1.093750v, 1.13v DMM
3500 14x 1.159375v, 1.19v DMM
3750 15x 1.228125v, 1.26v DMM
4000 16x 1.334375v, 1.37v-1.38v DMM
1st set of voltages are bios values, the 2nd is with my multi meter.
Meter readings could be off by 0.02v, it wasn't easy to get good contact on the measure points.
I forced a single power state so I could test the cpu at it's max speed to make sure (all 6 cores forced at the voltage and speeds).
I was testing so I could eventually setup all 5 of my power states manually.
Phenom msr tweaker screws up my setup though and makes it use the 2 highest pstates at all times.
So I'll have to wait for a bios to doit right.
At the moment I can only set the last 2 pstates in the bios manually.
Normal multi and turbo multi.
Turbo mode on my asus sets all 6 cores, not just 5 or less.
Essentually it's a full power state.
I set the turbo state to 16x and the normal one to 14x.
The rest are 4x, 8x, and 12x because I can't set them correctly yet.
At least with the bios doing it it doesn't screw up and all of the states kick in correctly.
But my low end multi is 4x instead of 12x, and my low end voltages are way higher then what I really need them to be, same goes for my max.
I've got my bios'es offset vcore to the lowest setting it allows and it's still slightly higher then what I need.
I got a good cpu though lol, just a tad over 1v for 3ghz...
The vga card I swapped out this morning for stability testing, found that all my random hard locking was caused by it.
Also it preventing me from reaching real stability with my mem at 2000mhz 8-9-8-25 cmd1.
I thaught the card ran cooler then my 8600gt.
But that was only because it had 3 performance states.
On load it would reach up to 90c and sometimes hard lock because of it.
Even when I epoxied a giant heatsink to it (covers half the card).
And when it's running 28c on idle, it'll still hard lock my board on random :\.
I'm just glad to know that the vga card was the one at fault.
I just paid $80 three months ago for it though.
Anyways I'm using the stock cooler on the cpu, surprising enough to me anyways.
I don't think it's a 100% safe bet for all 1090's to get 4ghz on the stock cooler.
But it should be fine to reach for 3.75.
I'll start back on getting the game in a min here and I should have it done by morning.
(my mom uses the modem every 12hours)
At the moment, I still woudl of picked my new board and cpu.
But I don't think it was worth the extra $100 over the other core.
I defently woudl of picked the 1090t, but the cost is to much.
If you allready have 3.2-3.4ghz, wait it out for the prices to go down or for the 12 cores to come out next year sometime.
