Felt I should reply here rather than create a new thread for the same topic.
For progressive games, 8x is plenty. For field-rendered games, 8x doesn't even hit 4k; you need 9x for 480i to actually hit 4k, closer to 10x if the source is 448i (which is more common as far as I can tell). It's for this reason that I've been looking for a way to go back to forcing higher than 8x again now that Ridge Racer V is in such a better state, but it (and every other field-rendered game) still has unsightly scaling artifacts on the Y axis at 8x. Beautiful on a smaller not-4k monitor, but could really use the extra push for 4k.
Alternatively, if field-rendered game = true, double internal vertical resolution to compensate, then even 5x or 6x is plenty.
