It isn't really an issue. It's a convenient feature.
And there's really no way to override the failsafe? You don't need to edit it directly. Just have a tickbox to apply x colors to every new profile.
It would have the same effect without being completely disjointed like the OP said.
Of course, this is a pretty specific setting. I dunno if it's worth the space in the settings tab to have a tickbox like that.
Maybe in the profiles tab somewhere, but I still dunno.
