I've managed to follow synce's tutorial and modify the horizontal FoV. However, the render area needs to be expanded. I have tried searching for the value "512" with Cheat Engine, but none of the addresses seem to do the trick.
I'm not entirely sure what I should be searching for to locate the horizontal rendering area. If anyone has tips I would appreciate the help.
Here is a ws patch for the chinese version. Please make conversation by your own.

How hard is it to make a 16:9 patch into a 16:10 patch? I've tried modifying one on my own and gotten nowhere.
Here is the 16:9
Code:
gametitle=Final Fantasy X International (NTSC-J)
comment=Widescreen hack
patch=1,EE,001a5854,word,3c013f19
patch=1,EE,001a5858,word,3421999a
patch=1,EE,0011973c,word,3c014440
patch=1,EE,00176124,word,3c01442b
So if it's like not too hard, could someone make that 16:10 for me? If it's a ton of work, don't bother, but if it's something easily doable, I would seriously appreciate it! It's really only the main game I care about, so you don't have to worry about the world map and sphere grid if it's extra work!

Yeah, sorry, no.
It's best just to go with 16:9 at this rate, especially for consistency.
Thanks for the Chinese version patch. It was a big help and I was able to use it to find the address for the render area. I didn't know that the value of this address could be a multiplier, so I wasn't searching for "1." I probably encountered this address when I was searching for the horizontal viewport but wasn't paying enough attention to notice the render area change.
The Chinese patch has a third modification to an address I had noted while searching for the viewport. It sets this address to 1, though the address is already 1 and doesn't seem to change.
Thanks again, whitoxx, for providing the help I requested.

I noticed that the content of the FFX international widescreen patch:
Code:
gametitle=Final Fantasy X International (NTSC-J)
comment=Widescreen hack
patch=1,EE,001a5854,word,3c013f19

patch=1,EE,00176124,word,3c01442b
Contains code to force the game to English. In my opinion, that shouldn't be there. In order to play the game in Japanese, one must open the cheats_ws.zip, find the correct patch, and edit that out. The pnach in question is 658597E2.pnach

That was added because a lot of English players can't decipher what the Sphere Grid and Language Select screens say upon starting a New Game (and they have to look up a translation guide online), and also, the Load Game remains in Japanese no matter what, even when the save file has English selected. It's also more consistent because the International release has English voices.
Is there any reason you want to play the game with Japanese subs?
Don't be offended by it, it's not like this:
