War of the Monsters widescreen hacks Smile...

Pnaches:
  • War of the Monsters (NTSC-U) [SCUS-97197]
    .pnach   2EDE12D1.pnach (Size: 9 KB / Downloads: 676)
  • War of the Monsters (PAL-Unk) [SCES-51224]
    .pnach   5FD57F38.pnach (Size: 9,44 KB / Downloads: 538)

What's covered:
  • 3D:
    • Field of views (FOVs).
    • HUD positioning.
  • 2D:
    • Sprite widths.
    • Font width/spacing/positioning.
    • 2 player splitscreen separator bar width.
    • 2 player separator bar fix for unified view.

What isn't covered:
  • FMVs (haven't been able to figure this out in any of Incognito/ESP's PS2 games - too bad since this game's FMVs are letterboxed widescreen...).

Issues:
  • The far left of the widescreen loading bar contains a small vertical black line and an "extra" part of the bar. It's barely noticeable, but causes the bar to look a little wider than it should be. It can be seen in the 4th pair of screenshots.

Notes:
  • I fixed a bug in the game that caused the 2 player splitscreen separator bar (which is normally situated in the far right of player 1's viewport) to also appear in the far right of unified view. Unified view is when the game merges player 1 and 2's viewports if their monsters get near one-another. Check out the 7th pair of screenshots to see what I mean.
  • Some of the hacks were done as conditional E-type codes. Since those can't be injected into hacked ELFs (unless PS2 Patch Engine is used), I also created MIPS versions of them, which are commented-out in the pnach files.
  • The PAL version of this game defaults to English when fast-booted. The only way to play it in non-English languages is to set the desired language in the BIOS, and do a full boot. Unfortunately, PCSX2 (up to R5932+) currently loads the selected game ISO's widescreen patches into BIOS memory when full booting, resulting in a crash before the game has had a chance to launch. To get around it, follow these steps: disable widescreen patches, do a full boot, create a save state during the intro FMVs, shutdown, enable widescreen patches, fast boot, and then load the save state.

Other:
  • I'll likely be porting these hacks to 3 other variants of this game in the future (NTSC-J version, NTSC-U OPM issue #64 demo, and the standalone NTSC-U demo).
  • Overtime I'll release widescreen hacks for all of Incognito/ESP's PS2 games (including enhancements/revamps of what already exists for Twisted Metal: Black and Downhill Domination).

Thanks Arapapa, I made a font fix for Nightmare Before Christmas, and I'm still testing it.
There's only 3 games that need render fixes now.

Nicely done Aced, looks really complicated!

Thank you arapapa, yes Sidewinder V is Lethal Skies 2 in NTSC-U & PAL,
i have the game in different regions and is the same game.

Well for the japanese version i have the "Bundle Flight" version which have
different executable (SLPS_252.55) instead the standard version (SLPM_252.71),
the CRC seems the same 29D80A23.

Then i applied the pnach to the Bundle Flight version of Sidewinder V but
only works fine for the backgrounds, the graphics for the models of the
aircrafts appears too many slim and little corrupted:

I don't know if this is a problem due to the Bundle Flight version can be
different in any thing than the standard one, or the patch is not correct?

Regards.

Archive updated, my Nightmare Before Christmas font and HUD fixes are in it.
It includes stuff like subtitles, item icons, menus, etc.
Arapapa should give it a try, I put lots of effort into it!

The patch is not correct.

Maybe modifying value(ratio) is something diffrent than normal case.

Attached screenshots are modified by "3F740000"
It's a very smiliar to widescreen hack. but MIG-29's graphic is a little cracked.
(tested training mode by F-16 "Landing, Air to Air, Air to Surface")
(Do not load a "save state")

Made a fix for the inventory icons in Silent Hill 4. Sadly, couldn't do the same for SH2 or SH3.

Sometimes, it's worth it to just run Widescreen Helper, value 1 to 0.75, and see if anything on the HUD becomes smaller. If it does, open up Cheat Engine and find the X address near the Y address, and make notes in a .pnach file.

Hey devina40 (or anyone), can you make a patch for shadow of the collossus that puts the tcoffset of x and y to 250 while excluding moving tcoffset for the overworld brightness? I find that when using this tcoffset all the shines and effects on items and collosi line up correctly but it moves the overworld shine down making it cover everything and be too bright. If I put tcoffset to 0, then the shine is perfect, but effects on things are not aligned.
