PCSX2 - Widescreen Game Patches
No luck, same results as beforeSad

I didn't comprehend your patches in detail... do they override addresses which are constantly updated by the game (i.e. many times a second)?

My patch is not the problem. My routine overrides the VERT fov which is constantly updated in order to maintain it properly. However, you have already proven this is not the issue because the games both become HOR+ at some point.

I honestly do not know how to help you at this point.

The NTSC-U  patches for R&C 2 and 3 in the current archive are my old patches from years ago. They work for the first level, after that the games are back to vert- (this means while the games are still displayed in 16:9 the FOV is reduced, in the same way the built-in widescreen option works). I didn't test them enough back then... Tongue

Best regards

(do what 90% of us simple people do.  Use the pnach patcher, and apply it directly to the ISO.  You don't have to use the cheat engine, for pnach patches.  (Resident Evil Outbreak 1 and 2, God of War 1, I used the hex values from ps2wide.net, since pnach patcher didn't work)

(he's using the pnach patch through the cheat engine, he needs to try patch the iso directly)

(Now that reminds me "Road Trip" the pal racer doesn't work on Open PS2 Loader, with or without widescreen patch, that's one I can remember)

(WOW! lots of changes in the patch for ratchet and clank 2 and 3, I will definitely update whats on my ps2 hdd, hopefully the controller patch works on number 2 still)

(Obscure 1 and 2 for Pal recently received a grand update like this one in widescreen, if the NTSC is broken, like that too, maybe help us with that?  Rather just keep the ntsc on my hdd, I have a few pal games out of necessity for one or another reason)

EDIT

Tried the Last New Patch a post or so ago, pnach converter and the patcher doesn't identify some values, making this useless as a replacement for the ps2.................you can still convert it though, the opl cheat engine doesn't seem to identify it.  The patches in the official archive are fine as they are, they're not perfect, but they work on the ps2 console.  The New, New, New Patch appears to be pc emulator only, that should be noted if and when its included (forget that, just include both and let the users sort it out)

Do you know how the "PS2 patch engine" works? It certainly does not solve the issue with the R&C patches.
Well, maybe it could if pelvicthrustman (awesome developer!) implemented a new cheat engine which "works like PCSX2's cheat engine" (whatever this means). To make sure this isn't the case I just tested it: The patched ISO does not even load the first level ("Trap exception at 0x000c00b4" in PCSX2).

Off-topic: I prefer to use OPL's built-in cheat engine instead of PS2 patch engine simply because this way I don't have to alter the image files. After all widescreen patches  are WIP most of the time. But the patch engine is great for injecting codes which you want to be permant.

Thanks anyway!

Btw, I didn't want to blame your patches... sorry if it came across like that. They certainly did take a lot of effort which is appreciated!
I'm just searching for what causes the different behaviour in PCSX2/PS2 and this might be a reason.

The only codes the PS2 patch engine doesn't like are the "enforce built-in 16:9 option" (because they use the E code type), just leave them out. But it still does not work, see the post above.

And please read our conversation again: The NTSC-U patches in the current archive are NOT fine...

I think no patches (well, at least no WS patches) should be simply considered "emulator only". PCSX2 changes over time (e.g. to be more accurate) which might render such patches useless. Although in this case, it's still unclear what causes the issues...

(anyway, good idea, i have some things to try now, I should have my unworking problem resolved in a few, I mean tomorrow) (if need be, I'll take just the widescreen and hud fix code out of what and anything else that works, and, confirm the widescreen at least works like before)

It's ok, I understand. I'm getting a bit frustrated frustrated with this too.

I'm curious about something. When you add the cheats to ps2rd are you converting them into raw format from the pnach or are you directly using the pnach?

Ratchet and Clank 2 (with control L1 to 0 patch) and Ratchet and Clank 3 Widescreen Patch

.rar   Ratchet and Clank 2 and 3 Widescreen.rar (Size: 1,12 KB / Downloads: 221)

Finally both work on a real ps2 console!  (I only removed the checksum entries, and the recalculation routine from ratchet and clank 2 patch had to be removed in order to fix black screen on boot error freeze)

I also disabled the ingame 16x9 option since it cuts off apart of the screen on the top, so make sure to disable that option in Ratchet and Clank 2 and 3, if you want.

(Jet Force Gemini from N64, thats what this game rips off, and this is where it gets its high value in playability..................these games are not really a copy of jax and daxter, I don't believe that anymore, until you actually play the game, you probably won't believe the statement)

Because of what you removed, both patches do absolutely nothing. Both ratchet 2 and 3 end up being in vert- when the built in widescreen is enabled.
