I know what AF is =), hehehe.
It makes a noticeable improvement in Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana combat situations. Turning AF on reduces all shimmering when the camera is moving and panning around =).

To me it looks like they are reversed,
GSDX UI
check=off
no check=on
I could be wrong i guess but my eyes tell me other wise, as the Off with 8x select (sharp) looks better then on with 8x selected (blurry)
And AF makes things look sharper not blurry. " saying off is the more pixelate and on make it sharp" make no sense cause putting it on would make those pixelate "textures" sharper not blurry
So i guess it is work even if i think the ui panel is wrong and checked as off and no check as on. and matter of opinion of AF would make something blurrier when on when it should make sharper as turning AF off is what should make thing blurrier.
Then again i not programer nor did i program this and now how ps2 really works as such i uncheck AF in the UI and leave it set @ 8x

No, you aren't understanding how AF works.
Generally in PC games yes - AF on = less blurry, more sharp. That's because PC games use mipmapping - they use smaller, lower quality textures further away from the camera. But at oblique angles, this creates the nasty blurry effect we hate. AF remedies this.
However PS2 games do not use mipmapping(except for a few, and those don't work in hardware). They use the same texture no matter how far away it is from the camera. This creates a too sharp texture that shimmers as you move the camera. AF remedies this.
In most situations the application of AF in a PS2 game is not for the exact same reason as in a PC game. It both improves the quality of textures, but not in the same way.
That said if you prefer the no AF look then you prefer it, and there is nothing wrong with leaving it off.
But if you REALLY want to see if this is a "bug" or not then do this -
Take PCSX2 1.2.1 package which has no AF. Get to a point in the game good for screenshot. Take it. Then take a later build with AF, go to same point and take shots with AF on and off. Then compare them to the 1.2.1 shot and see which matches.

Mhm, main advantage of AF in PCSX2 is fixing shimmering, really annoying stuff when playing a game and textures are shiny and dancing with your camera.
