PCSX2 - Widescreen Game Patches

(I'm looking at you, ElHecht, since you have the PAL version).

Both patches doing exactly the same and nemesis uses different registers. It's like 4+4=8 and 4*2=8, neither equation is superior. More than one road leads to rome. Honestly, there is no to do here :-)

Still, I prefer patches to be as succinct as possible. Tongue
Takes up less space in the archive. Plus it's better for consistency, I guess.

That's cool... any reason you feel like redoing my hacks bro? That's two now, with no actual improvement in either case...nothing more important to work on?

I am trying to find a Skype smile here, that shows a sad face with a huge tear appearing and slowly sliding down over and over again. It is not a sarcasm, I just have hoped that somebody, except devina40 and pelvicthrustman, are working on requests, too.

Anyway, I want to thank you for your ongoing contributions and great website you made.

Remember everyone, this is all open-source volunteer work.
If you want more developers and better patches, and I can't stress this enough... work on improving tutorials, programs and methods! Make it noob-friendly!

I don't even really find widescreen values myself.
If I do, I just use synce's method with Cheat Engine and Widescreen Helper and most of the time, it fails because I lack more advanced knowledge.

So my role is moreso to govern the archive, add requests, update patches, maintain quality, and port them to other regions.

Anyway, we're already at version 98, so I'm going to eventually restart back at 1, 2, 3, etc again.

Every project needs someone like you to run it!

I think you hit the nail on the head here - this is an open-source project and in that kind of project the personal investment of the contributing members is very important to the projects success; pride of ownership is a very important part of retaining your talent.

I understand that Nemesis is the most contributing member here and his opinion counts, but I think the exchange above has illustrated that there's better and then there's "better." Simply doing a widescreen hack with a multiplied horizontal FOV value instead of a zoom+/vert fov- value does not make the hack better! Frankly it primarily seems like an excuse for him to post it on ps2wide.net under his name, which is not in the collaborative spirit of this project.

Your role here is to establish a policy:

If that were the case then zoom+/vert fov- for 007: From Russia with Love that I made is in fact the better hack, since it ends up being equivalent to Nemesis' hack and is much shorter (El Hecht's hack is also shorter than Nemesis'). My point is not to bicker over this - I even said to go ahead and use his if for no other reason than to be nice. However, this is getting stupid. I suggest you set a policy that widescreen hacks will be replaced/updated when improvement relative to the existing hack has been demonstrated pictorially (exactly like I did comparing my 007 hack to Nemesis' to demonstrate no change). This way you have an objective standard to measure by, rather than simply assuming based on authorship alone what is and is not better, you also guard against taking credit for someone else's work by finding a different but equivalent expression if it (a lot easier when you already know one solution). I suggest you adopt this standard and adjust the last few submissions/updates to reflect the policy change and head off future shenanigans/confusion/unproductive argument.

Just my two cents Smile.

Aw, thanks. It takes lots of strength and courage to be able to stand up, and make the first move. But hey, someone's gotta do it. I try to listen to everyone and meet their needs.

The "succinct" thing was only my preference. I do agree that it was unnecessary of Nemesis. Instead of making a policy, Nemesis should just quit remaking them. I think the point's been made and he understands it. I'd rather not touch them anymore if it isn't needed.

I also like to think that everyone owns the patches, not just individual people. It's like someone making an article on Wikipedia and then trying to claim they "own" it and its "theirs". It's just not the right way to think about it. Let's be honest. At the end of the day, no one gives a darn about who made the patches, all they care about is that their game is in widescreen. So let's all work and communicate here to reach that goal.

From now on, I will attach people's names to requests. For example, if pelvicthrustman wants to work on Harvest Moon, I will post your name next to it in the Requests section. This will help prevent the possibility of two people working on the same patch and wasting time. This doesn't mean that another person isn't allowed to work on Harvest Moon, but just lets people know the ins-and-outs of what's going on.

I'm also creating a new "Projects" section where we all have goals to work on. I'll post things that need to be done there.
