I-Ninja [NTSC-U] already has 16:9

Why is Valkyrie Profile 2 included?
I got a lot of crashes with the ws patch active and the game already supports 16:9 output.

ggxxtonghao: Regarding VP2: I prefer a working game over nice wide screen screenshots. The game crashes with those ws patches active.

NTSC-U has the GameGuard fix, which fixes the crash. It may need to be ported to other regions.

I was using NTSC-U with Undub patch applied.

I think that if a game natively supports 16:9, even if it's only cropped (the 3D - the HUD is most probably good), then we shouldn't have a ws patch by default. The reason is that the devs probably made sure already that the ws mode is good, and that no important stuff is left out.
Of course, if someone still wants to apply the patch manually to make it look better for him/her, np, but it shouldn't be applied automatically by default when ws hacks are enabled IMO.

I'll have to look into it later, but I'd recommend trying the dubbed version. Most people in the widescreen community hate vert-. The only reason why developers included vert- was either due to incompetence, or to prevent lag (zooming in the camera = less data on-screen). All the Vert- fixes for these games are flawless, just trust me on this. (01-05-2014, 03:41 PM)devina40 Wrote: All the Vert- fixes for these games are flawless, just trust me on this. Well, apparently on some variants they still fail, like with rama's version where it still gets applied due to same CRC. Regardless though, even if most people prefer "proper" ws, it still doesn't change the fact that the game supports ws natively, and therefore a ws hack would be some sort of enhancement rather than "make 4:3 only game work reasonably well also in 16:9". Every hack has a potential to mess something up, therefore, IMO, the official ws "pack" should not include ws hacks for games which support ws. Still, it doesn't prevent anyone from applying this patch manually. But for the millions who install the official version and don't lurk the forums or ws hacks pages, such ws "enhancement" shouldn't be applied by default when they enable the ws hacks IMO. |
