PCSX2 - Widescreen Game Patches

First off, thanks a bunch for the code so quickly, you're a lifesaver!

So if there's no documentation, then how do you go about doing this? I'm just curious since I may want to do it again in the future and I clearly won't even know where to start. For instance, I'd also ideally like to patch the game to run at 720p or 1080i.

(no insult intended but that's what I meant that your points are random and incorrect because you just don't stick to them)

You have to decide which (perception) side you are UNIVERSALY here when you make patches.
Alternatives could always be included but all the major ones must match a fixed idea.

Speaking of which, how come KH2FM was easily able to get it's HD wide screen via patch, but KH1FM has nothing as of right now? Personally the current widescreen hack makes cutscenes look rather ugly and definitely effects performance too. If KH1FM can get the optional zoom too I would die happy

The problem with KH series and the cropped widescreen being a bad idea is that you will notice on cutscenes many stuff being abruptly cut out of boarders, I mean was doing my best to not notice them on KH1.5HD and I couldn't, it was bad, really bad, so many heads cut off or face closeups would cut eyes and mouth. Why do we have to repeat that mistake Square Enix did? Square Enix did it because they were utterly bored to fix the missing stuff that appear on a couple of cutscenes on the sides, otherwise they would use the typical extra side field widescreen. Instead of trying to compete with PS3 HD releases that either way the vast majority of them are bad or offer nothing at all, we should try being a step further from them and act like they don't exist.

Because KH1, KH: Re:CoM and KH2 all have different engines, despite being in the same series.
Also, what do you mean "KH1FM has nothing as of right now?" Wacko
There's a patch in the archive for it. NTSC-J > Kingdom Hearts - Final Mix

Here's a sample of the upcoming English translation patch, using our widescreen hack.

In other news, I think it's technically possible to make an FMV fix for all games lacking them.
In 4:3 mode in PCSX2, press Control and * on the numpad, and it will remove the letterbox black bars on the top and bottom.
It's a bit of a hassle though (switching between aspect ratios), so in the future, I'd like to see either a single shortcut button on PCSX2, or an automated fix that detects if an FMV is playing and crops the bars and once it's over, switches back to 16:9.

Requst:

Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love (Disc 2 / Japanese with English subs) [NTSC-U].\

EDIT:

You could also check the Wii version. If there's a game both on the PS2 and Wii, it's likely that the Wii version supports 16:9. For example, Okami.

If it still doesn't, using the widescreen hack in Dolphin should make it 16:9 and keep all the 2D art unstretched.

Also, yes I realize there is Wii version available, but I want to play the PS2 version for the Japanese voices.

The scenes were already made for 5:3 they just either cropped a little of the top or filled in the extra space on the sides. It doesn't look to bad to me.

Hey would it be possible to replace the textures for the HUD in Kingdom hearts 2 by replacing the textures with a resized image to fit with the font in widescreen I saw a video on YouTube of Crazy Catz 00 showing off a patch of Kingdom hearts 2 FM and the menu picture was extended widescreen. If it was fixed the sprites and artifacts would be fixed.

This is kinda WIP.

It's a bit off, the game has somekind of fish-eye effect and even though the result seems correct the proportions are just a tiny bit off.
It should help though to find a correct expansion of the sides.
You could use it anyway as this, doesn't break anything anyway.

Here are some widescreen patches for Sandlot's first PS2 game Smile...

Pnach:
  • Tekkoki Mikazuki: Trial Edition (NTSC-J) [SLPM-60143]
    .pnach   6BB8CADF.pnach (Size: 968 bytes / Downloads: 476)
Notes:
  • The proper way of writing "Tekkoki" would be "Tekkōki", but I don't believe ANSI encoding supports the ō (long o) character...
  • GameIndex.dbf currently lacks an entry for this game... I opened issue #1458 on Google Code in the hopes of getting it added.
  • This game (as well as Robot Alchemic Drive - and possibly other Sandlot games) use a depth of field effect that looks hideous in GSdx. Skipdraw 1 seems to fix it. All of the attached screenshots were taken with that hack enabled.
Screenshot descriptions:
  1. 4:3
  2. 16:10 (normal)
  3. 16:9
  4. 16:10 (ultra)

I dont know if this is the right place to ask but Im having trouble getting the patches to work for all games. Ive followed the readme and got it working for a few games such as Ridge Racer V and Katamary Damacy but cant do the same for others such as God of War 2 and Valkyrie Profile 2.

Also how much of a performance hit is it, if it is than is it CPU or GPU bound?
