PCSX2 - Widescreen Game Patches
That's not really a failure due to widescreen, it's moreso because Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria has GameGuard which causes the game to crash if it detects cheat codes are enabled, plus we haven't even attempted to make a GameGuard fix for the undub version yet.

I don't see the harm in zooming out the camera like a meter to make sure the widescreen is hor+ like its 4:3 version.

If someone for some reason wants vert- (which no one does, seriously), then it's as simple as unchecking "Enable Widescreen Patches". It's far easier to do that than ask us to remove possibly 50-70 patches from the archive.

Seriously, here's a comparison:

I don't really wanna add fuel to the flame here...

But I could not agree more with devina40 on this one. I can see what your saying though, in that we shouldn't really add codes by default to game that already have widescreen regardless if it's skewed or not. At the same time though, I think most people who play these games don't even realize the widescreen is vertical- at all. Like honestly, who checks between both the 4:3 and 16:9 modes of a game to see if it's correct? Hell, I didn't even notice that FFXII had a skewed-in widescreen until it was mentioned here.

As well, I've noticed that some of the codes, such as with FFXII and the ace combat games only affect the camera when 16:9 is enabled in the options menu, which pretty much just fixes the viewing angle the way proper widescreen should be. Anyone playing in 4:3, should they choose, is unaffected. Ultimately, i think that would be the ideal goal for every vertical- game.

Finally, I can understand the game developers wanting to use a skewed-in 16:9 mode, because as devina said, they obviously want players to experience their game in the best way, without any frame drops or aliasing. Ironically though, and I'm sure most people have noticed this as well, but many ps2 games, even with the widescreen codes, seem unaffected. Hell, I play on a physical ps2, and of all the games I've tried, I don't really experience any slowdown at all.

One more thing and I'm no expert...I don't know what the budget was for any of these ps2 games, but it does certainly seem like the widescreen mode was just added in last minute. Just look at FFXII...I mean really? The widescreen mode just changes the in-game camera and nothing else, no menu fix, no hud fix, no text fix...at least, they were nice enough to fix the FMV.

I think we've settled for keeping the ws patches intact for those games that do support it natively but do a bad job at it.
They are hacks after all and can be disabled..
VP2 is different though, there are many versions of that game (specials, undubs) and they all have that cheat protection
going on. I prefer leaving that patch out until it's 100% solved.

Thank you.

And did you try out Nemesis' new patch, which was posted three posts above? Did it stop the freezing?

Just to put my 2 cents on the matter, I find it quite a hypocricy people to discuss and try to correct games with native widescreen to something more matching to the whole concept of this site's widescreen perception and at the same time they have a reverse-reality-point with the default values of Kingdom Hearts games that do exactly the opposite to match the "HD" PS3 releases which are cropped. (no insult intended but that's what I meant that your points are random and incorrect because you just don't stick to them)

You have to decide which (perception) side you are UNIVERSALY here when you make patches.
Alternatives could always be included but all the major ones must match a fixed idea.

Personaly, there are games with native 16:9 that I could never stand and I'd prefer the 4:3 streched or with black bar than using those.
Perfect examples, Tekken 5 and Final Fantasy XII. From the first view I felt that something was going terribly wrong. Thank god patches here fixed their out of their misery.

VIRGIN KLM, please take a breath and calm down. We're discussing stuff and trying to present our arguments clearly, no need for insults (and yes, calling other hypocrites is an intended insult, please don't do that).

Just make your opinion clear, and even if it's different than others, it doesn't mean others don't follow their own line of logic. We're trying to find a solution which would work best for most people, but it's unlikely that anything will work best for all people.

Just state your preference, and your supporting arguments, to the point.

On that note, might I request a patch for Bionicle The Game NTSC-U? (Xbox of course) I'm working on a walkthrough for Bionicle Media Project, and it would help significantly with the quality over the PS2 version.

Would it also be possible for you to PM me some documentation on how exactly you create patches for the Xbox like this? This kind of info is actually rather difficult to come by. I spent 6 hours a few nights ago looking it up, and your site was the closest I ever found to a proper answer.

replace

Nope, because for XBOX there is no documentation, how-to, or other stuff like cheat engine and etc. Only disassembler and hex editor, nothing more.

Any chance someone could please make widescreen patches for Dragon Ball Z Budokai 1 and Budokai 2 European versions (There aren't any WS patches for US versions either, but I prefer EU versions due to Jap voices) as well as American versions of Budokai Tenkaichi 1 and 2 (there are no patches for either EU or US version of BT1 and BT2)?

Budokai 1: SLES_512.33
Budokai 2: SLES_518.39
Budokai Tenkaichi 1: SLUS_212.27
Budokai Tenkaichi 2: SLUS_214.41

Edited:
Edit since I wrote the post in a hurry and didn't give precise details earlier.
