I just joined to reply to your comment, kinda lame since I don't plan on making any requests or using PCSX2, but the widescreen patches do work on a ps2.  "ps2wide" has some of the patches listed as the archive.  In this particular case of Ar Tonelico, there are more locations added in the package here.  I think the problem you are having was added by addressing another issue perhaps resizing a hud.  ...................... Since you already have your save file could you try the patch on "ps2wide" and see if the error is still there.  ........................... or maybe share you gamesave, since I don't care about playing that game at the moment to see if the error was added to the pnach file. (the values are not labeled in the pnach file, so you can imagine how many ps2 disks I will have to burn to find everything out on my end, since I don't care about the emulator on the pc, I have the real disk somewhere beneath a pile of dirty socks).
