An overpriced quad core? Tongue

overpriced = extreme edition = unlock multiplierBlink

it worth Tongue
Q6600 is a sweet overclocker. I've had mine at 3.6ghz for a entire year with no issues. It has a nice price and if you can get the right revision it overclocks like a beast. I have no need to upgrade at this time.

What revision do you have? I have the G0
hi guys, I'm gonna upgrade my old E4500 to a Xeon X3220. Is it good for PCSX2? what about overclock capacity? Huh

My hardware knowledge is quite limited, it's just that there is a big discount with that processor so... you see Tongue

dont do that, most consumer motherboards will not support a xeon, and if you get a board for it youll probably have to get ECC memory which is not cheap.

someone feel free to correct me if im mistaken heh
I just have to say that the Kuma 7750 BE is awesome best $60 ive ever wasted, i got it yesterday and OC'ed it to 3GHz In a matter of secs by raising the multiplier to 15x It is a great dual core considering the performance i gained over that Phenom 9500
Biggrin

7750BE is a great value CPU. The E5200 still overclocks and performs better in the emu though, but other then that, they trade blows back and forth depending on the application you're using.

As for the Xeon issue... Yeah, just go with a Kentsfield Q6600. They're pretty much the same thing, just the Xeon has some sort of additional memory management capability that's pretty useless for the majority of computer owners. I dealt with this same issue when I was upgrading from my E6600 to a quad.

That pretty much sums it up. And like other Q6600 G0 users here, I'm quite satisfied with mine @ 3Ghz. Could go higher as I do have watercooling, but it being summer and not wanting to waste money on AC... I'll wait till winter to jack it up some more Tongue2

And to keep the thread in the context of the PCSX2 forum...no, you will not see a difference between a X3220 and Q6600 Smile
Get the G0 stepping, as the newer revision sucks.
