I've attached a couple of elf demos that may help benchmarking.
They're 7zipped and 92k, one is a plasma tunnel demo, and the other is a demo of pills dropping from the top of the screen. Not sure who wrote the plasma tunnel, but the pillgen demo was written by

Introduction:
Finally, I get something out the "door". This program uses only the EE-core + COP2 (VU0)
to output in excess of 3.2 Million Triangles / Second. This figure is derived from:
Additionally, the triangles are gouraud shaded, with vertex "z-lighting" (OK that was
a fast hack) and full matrix transformation (rotation and translation) using COP2.
To achieve this speed, a single triangle strip was generated for each pill. This cut
down on the number of vertices that needed transformation and lighting, and cut down
on Bus bandwidth.
A graphics mode of 512x384 was used; I am not aware of any other program using
such a resolution. This is very convenient since 2 framebuffers of 512x384x32bpp
+ 1 zbuffer of 512x384x16bpp adds up to 0x1e0000 bytes, leaving ~ 2MB free for
textures and other trickery.

Thanks for the demos, the one called "pillgen-30fps-94pills-ntsc.elf" seems to be quite good.
It doesn't use the VUs (in micro mode) but at least it seems to stress the EErec.
Ok, here's the bench.
PCSX2 1736 (the official beta), default settings for everything, especially speedhacks!
Plugins as in the screenshot. GSdx settings didn't make a difference.

Ok, seems we've found ourselves a benchmark. If clamping is set higher, the SSE units also get some work to do.
We could probably hardcode a benchmark config for this demo into pcsx2
generalplot:
Do you know the speed your cpu ran this at? I'm talking of the turbo mode..
Shadow Lady:
Which VU rec you select shouldn't make a difference (Aero on/off does however ).

Something strange with this benchmark: my plugin is faster than Gabest one (r1650) in DX9 mode, 100 fps vs 89 -- is strange. And software speed is 157.

So guys, what settings are we using then ?
I've noticed some of you have changed default gdsx settings from 4:3 to either 16:9 or stretch, wouldn't it be better to stick with 4:3 defaults ?
Pcsx2 version ?
Heres mine, for now.
Pcsx2 r1732
Gsdx 1650 (I see 1832 is out, anyone tested ?) DX10 Hardware, 4:3
SPU2-x 1.2.0 defaults
185.
Just to edit,
Are you guys using VC9 or VC10 ?
