PCSX2 - Widescreen Game Patches
(01-11-2014, 10:25 AM)EmucraZ Wrote: Hey would it be possible to replace the textures for the HUD in Kingdom hearts 2 by replacing the textures with a resized image to fit with the font in widescreen I saw a video on YouTube of Crazy Catz 00 showing off a patch of Kingdom hearts 2 FM and the menu picture was extended widescreen. If it was fixed the sprites and artifacts would be fixed.

You'd need to talk to crazycatz about it. I tried Texmod, I could extract textures, but not replace them.

Ive followed the readme and got it working for a few games such as Ridge Racer V and Katamary Damacy but cant do the same for others such as God of War 2 and Valkyrie Profile 2.

Also how much of a performance hit is it, if it is than is it CPU or GPU bound?

Read the archive readme, specifically the "Games with skewed 16:9" section.

Also, the performance hit when using widescreen patches is usually very negligible.

Pnach:
  • Tekkoki Mikazuki: Trial Edition (NTSC-J) [SLPM-60143]
Notes:
  • The proper way of writing "Tekkoki" would be "Tekkōki", but I don't believe ANSI encoding supports the ō (long o) character...
  • GameIndex.dbf currently lacks an entry for this game... I opened issue #1458 on Google Code in the hopes of getting it added.
  • This game (as well as Robot Alchemic Drive - and possibly other Sandlot games) use a depth of field effect that looks hideous in GSdx. Skipdraw 1 seems to fix it. All of the attached screenshots were taken with that hack enabled.
Screenshot descriptions:
  1. 4:3
  2. 16:10 (normal)
  3. 16:9
  4. 16:10 (ultra)

Hi Aced 14,

Thanks for your effort. I really want to try this, but this game is so rare I can get it from no where.

I'm probably missing something here but doesn't Valkyrie Profile 2 (and pretty much all Tri-Ace games) have in-game 16:9 + progressive option already?

I am working on pretty like the most random thing that will be posted here, alot of people will laugh or get frustrated with it. XD

OK, here's propably the most weird thing you'll see posted around here:

This is a hor+ fix for PS2'S BIOS (Europe v1.70 27-02-2003 Console)
While Sony offers a 16:9 option I find it rather weird and too "yesterday" (crops top-bottom and zooms in) for today's standars. Also PCSX2 won't crop the black bars anyway so this idea is not really working on PCSX2.

NOTE: While PCSX2 returns in BIOS always a CRC of 00000000 it will only work on this specific BIOS version (Europe v1.70 27-02-2003 Console), I can port it to other BIOS versions but it's the only BIOS I have since it's the only console I own. I could find though the offsets without having the rest BIOSes and port them but it shouldn't be hard to port them yourselfs.

I still need to find the font width values I'm sure it's just 2 addresses left.

It was a really intresting patch, I was even able to do a triple widescreen patch which was amazing apart from the fact that it needs a render fix (lol). 16:10 should be possible too. Feel free to play with it.

I set the bios to 16:9 and keep pcsx2 in 4:3 but I zoom in with ctrl * and it is pan and scan. it looks great the way i do it. ;D

I checked it out but God of War 2 and SotC both looked stretched, anything else I can try? Also for VP2 should I choose 4:3 or 16:9 when the game starts.

Icing on the cake.
Just curious though, how did you find the crc of the bios?

PCSX2 when it can't calculate one it falls back to 00000000.
We could integrate the function though to calculate one that matches the BIOS and the cheat could be BIOS specific.

forget, even if game starts at 720p or 1080i, HUD will be broken
