Will a laptop with these specs be able to run PCSX2 with some tweaks?

Processor is 2 slow oO?

Right now I have a Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33GHz (whats keeping me from playing most games is my GPU) and you're saying that the Core i7 is too slow oO?

Core i7 is not slower than Core 2, the problem is the clock speed, 1.6GHz won't be enough for most games while the Core 2 2.33 will be a little better but not much (if the core i7 is not turbo boosted that is).
Take in count the recommended for PCSX2 is a Core 2 @ 3.2GHz or even higher clocks depending on the games (you didn't mention which games you want to try).

I did some digging on this topic and I think I now undertand what you mean... Its the base clock that matters. Since pcsx2 only supports 2 cores, I cant take full advantage of my CPU Sad

Depends on the budget and whether you're overclocking or not. Best bet, i5-750/760 or Phenom II X4 paired with a midrange (~$200) GPU.

Overclocked i3-530 if you've got a bit tighter budget, but note that it's only dual-core. Newer games and applications are now becoming more threaded so while there's almost no performance penalty in PCSX2, overall performance might suffer.

Uh, which core i7 were you guys talking about? If it's BASE speed is 1.66ghz it probably clocks itself much higher on one or more cores.

edit: Yeah, I see it's the i7-720 which does in fact clock itself between 2-3ghz depending on which application you're using. That processor definitely won't be a bottleneck since 3ghz with 6-8mb of cache to make do with is plenty.

Been having some speed issues recently and not sure what am doing wrong of if my set up right now isn't all that good for it.

well, Vista is always a problem, other that that the ATI card I don't know at all (I don't follow them) but the rest looks fine. what games have you been trying?
