^^^ You got it. Speedhacks usually can help most with speed. Just don't overestimate your GPU's power. You may need to use a lower internal resolution for games that hit the GPU hard. Going as low as native should eliminate most any slowdown from it with your card.

You are going to wanna get one with a better GPU. One that has dedicated V-RAM. Intel's GPUs are generally crap for gaming, and especially for PCSX2.
The CPU won't be too bad, but see if you can get one with a little higher clock rate while you're looking for one with a better GPU. I'd think even a 2.5Ghz SB (before Turbo) would fair pretty well with most games.
Hi guys. What can I expect with a setup like this:
i5 2500k
4gb ram ddr3
gtx 275
I currently have an e8400 + 6gb ram, together with the gtx 275 and I've had some bouts of slowdown in games like FF X. My cpu is at stock though, not really a fan of overclocking. I tried the same game on a friend's comp (stock i5 750 with a gtx 260) and it ran the parts with slowdown at constant 60fps, so I'm kinda curious how much of an improvement the SB i5s will give me especially at stock. Heck since I'm getting a coolermaster v6, I might just overclock the thing since I've been reading reports of how easy it is to do with these CPUs (hopefully 4.2 - 4.5 is still within the realms of reach without hardcore voltage adjustments)
You could expect improvement even over your friend's i5-750.
And yes, the 2500K just
begs to be overclocked! I swear, Intel could've released a 4.0Ghz line with these things.
BTW - You shouldn't even need 1.3v for 4.0Ghz or more. Exact results may vary, of course.
@georaldc Yea the 2500K/2600K are just awsome, even at stock. Altough you really shouldnt have any problems running FFX on your current rig. Its one of the easiest of games to emulate and my E8400 runs it at far above fullspeed.
That's cool to hear. I actually already have the cpu, just looking for a good mobo. Can't wait to piece everything together ^^.
@GamerGeek
I guess its because I'm at stock atm.
^^ And not using Speedhacks, right? It's nice when you don't need them.
Games on speedhacks don't look natural to me, so I try to live without them. In God of War, I get some sort of skipping and flickering and stuff, don't know how other games react though.
Yeah, which Speedhacks won't "break" which games does vary. I think VU Cycle Stealing causes a flickering Kratos in God of War. Stick to the EE Cycle Rate for that one.
I wish the first post was amended. Laptop CPUs are in no way "less compatible" than desktop CPUs. Other than performance per price they're no different from their desktop counterparts. Look at the post. 4 categories of CPUs. Are the first 3 anything other than relics? Any laptop bought within the past couple years is likely already in the last category. Compatibility shouldn't even be an issue.
Laptops tend to run into more overheating problems and the automatic overclock solutions are a bit more complicated along with power saving features, yes they can have the same performance but you need to tweak them first and that's not always possible. Compatibility wise... yeah, basically any computer with a DX9 card and SSE2 processor should have same compatibility
