Might be Good. Better you go with Intel Core I5/I7 series and overclock them. If your budget is tight then it will be fine. Although MGS3 is very demanding game it might run 30+ fps
.
It's cutscenes run slowest on PS2 not to mention the Slim ones.
snake eater !
this game is the most demanding game i have ever seen on PS2 not to mention PCSX2
i think it require +4GHz dual core yo play smoothly ( full speed )
if you haven't bought it yet don't do it it will cost the same if you buy an first generation dual core i3/5 5/6xx not to mention cheaper DDR3 memory and better OCing
Interesting. Kudos to the team that made this system possible. As an emulation junkie I'm pleased that I can play some of my actual playstation 2 games on my PC. As one of the compatible games that I have. Viewtiful Joe runs at really slow speed. I can handle it though; I don't have the latest computer specs so I'm not really suprised that Viewtiful Joe won't run. It's still a great emulator though and can run most of my other games anyways. As my first post I want to thank all of the team who have worked very hard to produce such a feat. Kudos!

This upgrate would run better or there is still something to change about it?
I bought recently (but they arean't received yet) :
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe Link
AMD Athlon II 255 (3.1GHz/Dual Core/2x1Mo)
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 1gb DDR3 Link
My last build :
Abit AN-M2HD
AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ OC 2.7Ghz
4GB DDR2
NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT 512mb OC
First off, that GTS 450 is most likely gonna be a bit weaker for PCSX2 than that 9800GT. Don't see many DDR3 450s, but the DDR5 variant is merely about equal to the 9800GT for the purpose.
Anyway-- That build isn't too bad. If you're a particular fan of AMD (or their prices), it will fare pretty well with many games, but I strongly suggest you consider overclocking that processor.

it has :
c2d e8400 @3.0 (will be oc'd to 3.6)
asus p5q deluxe mobo
planning to buy hd5850 (recommend sth. here)
2x2 ddr2 1066 mhz kingston hyperx ram
target : mgs3:snake eater. i need an optimal fps that's enough to play near-smooth.
That should actually handle MGS3 pretty well, assuming you utilize Speedhacks. A heavy game, indeed, but those specs should be enough to keep the FPS full or very close to it.
I have this PC which is a beast but no graphic card.
CPU: Intel i7-2600k
RAM: 4 GB
GPU: Intel HD 3000
I can overclock with CPU to around 5 Ghz to 5.3 Ghz if I stick in the right cooling fan, but right now what I need is a graphic card.
I planning to buy a graphic card but not sure which one.
ATI Radeon HD 6950
Nvidia GTX 560
Which one is better for PCSX2? Or should I wait for the next generation of GPU?
Also, do PCSX2 support hyper-threading?
Great CPU, but HT isn't really a factor. (Clockrate is)
Both GPUs will do great. I'd suggest the GeForce, cause I like they way they run.
I think the 6950 would out do the GTX 560 in terms of extra up-scaling.
Which of them has higher memory bandwidth is usually the better one.
So I'm building a new computer, and I haven't paid attention to PCSX2 since forever. Would a build like this work well for just about anything?
Intel i7-2600k @ 3.4Ghz (May overclock)
Nvidia 560GTX
8GB DDR3 RAM
My interest in PCSX2 is almost exclusively for 3D games (Sly Cooper, Jak and Daxter, Dark Chronicle, etc.).
Yeah that would be great for PCSX2. Although the first 2 games that you mentioned suffer from nasty emulation issues still...

Really? The compatibility list shows that both Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter are in a playable state.
I even found a video someone uploaded just today of JnD running at full speed with almost no problems whatsoever!
But that's beside the point, thanks for appraising my system.
How about their eyes in the video? lol
Those games had a rough journey to the compatibility they have now, AFAIK.
