Do keep in mind with laptops and ultrabook style ones in particular that you might want to check reviews before purchase to see how they handle thermals and power. Early 8th gen intel laptops were pretty notorious for thermal throttling issues until manufacturers caught on that the new chips could not be cooled the same way as they did with the previous generwtions.

Those CPUs are enough for the games you mentioned, the GPu sould be enough too
Any cpu out since about the 7200u will handle those games at native rez with the IGP. I had a 7200 and had to do some swapping between hardware and software (cutscreens and game play ) to maintain 60 fps.. and I still had dips... but that was a few generations older. At least for final fantasy x. xii, that took a slight bit more horse power if I remember right.. I've not really tried on my ryzen 5 2500u.. BUT it's stp is a bit higher than the 7200u I had. I've ran kh2 on it and it's been smooth (really smooth) and IF I remember right, ffx and kh2 are really similar in hw requirements. If that IGP on the intel is the iris plus 940.. it looks to walk all over my vega 10.. so shouldn't be any form of slowdown for ya there.
NHA - as others have said.. beware of throttling.. they can only fit so much cooling in those thin cases, and I suspect that will be a major issue for you. If you can go with something other than the integrated gpu, I feel like you'd be ahead of the game.

Yeah, that's my only concern. The cooling solution with the dual fans and the properly sized heatsink looks promising, but I will definitely research a little more on this topic.

Don't know if it's the 940, but it definitely is the most powerful (G7) iGPU on both the i5 and the i7. I guess I'll try my luck and let you know how it performs – somebody has to do it, right?
PS: Thanks again for your replies – you're helping me a lot with my decision!
Hey everyone. Which of these 3 laptops would you recommend?
Option 1 ($450)
i5-8300H
GTX 1050ti
8GB Ram
Option 2 ($500)
i7-7700HQ
GTX 1060
8GB Ram
Option 3 ($300 - preferred due to budget)
i7-7300HQ
GTX 1050ti
8GB Ram
I want full speed at either Native or 720p resolution. Games I’m planning to play are MGS2/MGS3 and the Ratchet and Clank series.
Option 1 has the best CPU by a large margin. Assuming it has good cooling and a good power delivery then it should handle emulation better the option 2 or 3.
Option 2 has the best GPU, it will handle native PC games better then option 1 or 3, but it's CPU will limit it's potential in emulation. This is assuming good cooling and power delivery.
You are wanting to play some very demanding titles so option 1 is a safer bet, but there are enough people on the board with 7th gen CPU laptops that someone might know if the 7700HQ is just enough to handle these specific games.
Just wanted to report back that I was able to get MGS 2 & 3 and the Ratchet & Clank series to play smoothly using the i7-7700HQ CPU. My full laptop’s specs are as follows:
Asus FX503VD
CPU i7-7700HQ
8GB Ram
GPU Nvidia 1050 4GB
I’m using Open GL and Native resolution. MGS 2 & 3 play at 60 FPS constantly while the Ratchet & Clank games can drop to 54-55 FPS but does not bother me at all.
Hello all !
I would like to get my hands on a ps2 emulator, and i'm thinking of getting a mini computer with an amd ryzen 5 3400G in a asrock a300 case.
With this processor/igpu be enough to emulate ps2 games in 1080p ? I'm mostly thinking about ff X, Tombraider or MGS2.
Thank you in advance.
Thanks for your quick and clear answer.
What would be the minimal nvidia gpu to effectively play MGS2 in 1080p ?
Thank you !
