Weirdly this evening everything seems to be working nicely. SotC is running at a stable 50fps (bar some sporadic moments of slight slow motion, around 80 percent speed, on Argo. These are rare and the fps are still getting reported back as 50)and I tested ZOE 2 and was getting 60fps most of the time through the first major battle. Have no idea why it's running so much better as there was no real load on the the system aside from PCSX2 the other day. Oh well, I won't complain :-)

Rule #1 in all of emulation, there. We're all lucky, plain and simple. Smile
At a glance, your computer seems like it can't get much better. Intel i5's can be better for certain tasks, and PS2 emulation (and usually gaming in general) is one of them, however yours should still work fine. With just that information it seems like it should run perfectly. You shouldn't have to do this, but try running it in a lower resolution.
(02-07-2011, 08:46 AM)Insom Wrote: [ -> ]there was a huge improvement from my old P4 2.8, 512kb cache, 533 bus rate. I think the step up to P4 HT 3.4, 2mb cache, 800 bus rate was more than a 30% improvement. Or at least, it feels like it. I do know for a fact thought that it outperformed my friend's C2D 2.1ghz laptop (3gb ddr3). We have tested them side by side a few times just for kicks, and mine always seems to load up stuff alot faster, and had not problem performing a million tasks at once, where as is started to get slower.

Your desktop being faster than the laptop probably has more to do with the hard drives rather than the CPU. 3.5" 7200 RPM would definitely beat 2.5" 5400 RPM in terms of performance. If you tried comparing the two in CPU limited tasks, then the C2D would most likely be faster.
Well I have been working on upgrading my system for a Full year.

My new system specs.

Processor: AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Thuban 3.3GHz
Ram: G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Motherboard: MSI 890FXA-GD70 AM3 AMD 890FX ATX
Video Card: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5

I have all of this except the processor which I will get next month.

I might end up Overclocking this system to stable 4.3ghz Then using Turbo boost to cut down to 3 cores and increase the GHz by .5 which would be 4.8GHz with only three cores.

Which will be neat for most of my computer games.
I know I don't really need this over the top Processor but it was only $240.00.

How well do you think this setup will work with the emulator?
Hello everyone,
I am in the market for a laptop as a desktop is not an option for me anymore due to space, but i have a decent budget to spend and was looking at the ASUS G73JW Gaming Laptop. I apologize in advance if this machine has been covered, but would someone be able to tell me if the specs below would be ideal for getting the maximum compatibility at the best speed for PCSX2? Should I upgrade any particular part? If so, which one? Finally, if there is a consensus on a particular laptop being the best, let me know that as well.

Thank you in advance and I look forward to hearing the responses.

It's all good, but the CPU could be more ideal for PCSX2. That one only hits 2.53Ghz on 2 cores. You may want to consider settling for a high clocked dual core i7, like a 620m or 640m. If being Hyperthreaded isn't enough and simply must have a physical quad core, then you may want to consider waiting for the mobile SBs coming around the beginning of March. That 2720QM is looking pretty sweet.

Thanks for the advice Rezard. Since I am not am not familiar with tech on processors, the reason you recommended the 2720QM was because it (according to the Intel website) will run at a Max Turbo Frequency of 3.3 GHz whereas the one I am looking at hits 2.53 GHz (the Intel website says 2.93 GHz unless I am reading it wrong). I am simply not sure what to really look at in terms of getting the best processor for my budget to run PCSX2 very well. Is my understanding correct?

On a related note, according to the site that I am looking at buying the laptop from, they want to charge me $1,105 to upgrade from the 740 to the Intel® Core™ i7-940XM Extreme (2.13~3.33GHz, 55W) w/8M L3 Cache - 4 Cores, 8 Threads. Wouldn't that mean that the 2720QM will be similarly expensive. I am not sure what makes the 940XM so great?

Bottom line: If you say to wait for 2720QM, I will keep that in mind when checking around during March and April. Thanks again.

Actually, you could expect to find the 2720QM in a more similar price range as the 740QM. They both have/had the same release price of $378, as opposed to the 940XM and 2920XM which have prices over $1000.

And the thing about Turbo Boost; Intel likes to advertise a processor with it's max Turbo Boost, which is only when processing a heavy single threaded operation (1 core). It varies from one CPU to another, but the maximum Turbo Boost frequency is usually more than the processor's boost on 2 cores (like with PCSX2).
Hi guys,
I'm unable to find a "presentations" thread, sorry if unorthodox.

I'm planning on getting:

MB: Asus P7H55M PRO
CPU: Core i3 550 3.2Ghz
GPU: (In doubt!) Asus Radeon HD 5570 1Gb DDR3/ Asus GT240/ or 430
RAM: Mushkin 2Gb 1333Mhz DDR3 CL7 (7-7-7-20)
HDD: SSD OCZ Vertex II

What would you say?, my target is about 60fps without any filter or AA @1280x720, for mildly demanding 3D games like, say, Persona 3 or 4.
Could it be?

I've seen several benchmarks for different configurations of those cards, and still can't make up my mind for a good price/power ratio.
