I have my eyes set on ordering an XPS 17 Dell laptop with these relevant specs as shown when I customize it.
PROCESSOR: 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i7-2620M processor 2.70 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.40 GHz
MEMORY: 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 Memory
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 550M 1GB graphics with Optimus
The CPU looks like it should be good enough for the most part if I've been reading the first post and others correctly, the only thing I'm concerned about is the video card I didn't see any mention of. Is that a proper GPU?. If it makes any difference the most important game I'm aiming to at least be playable is Okami which I read is demanding. Long as I can get away with native I'm happy. Thanks!
Yeah, you're both gonna be fairly well off.
i7-2630QM - This will be well suited for the games you've mentioned, although I'm unaware of the compatibility of Jak II. The architecture of the CPU is great, and the clockrates are fair. Of course, there will always prove need for Speedhacks in some cases.
i7-2620M - This one is actually a bit more impressive for PCSX2, due to higher clockrates. The lack of 4 cores normally won't hinder much, if at all.
AMD Mobility HD 6970 - Isn't this one of the very best available mobile GPUs right now? ;P
nVidia GT 550M - No worries. This GPU is very capable. It may not always handle some of the highest resolutions, but you should rarely (if ever) be stuck at native.
@ vorsybl:
Hmmm... Well, we must first establish what "max resolution" is.
If going by the scaler, that max is 6x scaling. Thats 6 times native, coming out to something far greater than, say, 1080p. I would recommend the greatest GPU you can get, and still not to get your hopes up with every game.
If by a custom resolution, then there simply is no limit to the actual max (as far as I can tell).
But I'm guessing you'd be plenty satisfied with about 720p or 1080p, right? Then your current card should handle that most often.
Well I dunno dude exactly what kinds of resolutions I was seeing with my old computer, I had a radeon x1950 pro and it played moderately, good enough. But I never really saw full on graphics especially of recent times. My friend lent me fall out 3, for example, I bought GTAIV for fifty dollars last year and it couldn't run on my old comp. amd 3800 dual core 2.0 ghz. I'm going to use it for recording purposes now. But yeah, I'm going to guess htat "720 p" is far beyond anything I've ever imagined or seen before.

That buggy piece of crap! I couldn't run it with my current set up!
Is it beast? this new technology is awesome
Okay, so a store here is having a sale and I saw this computer that seemes really good.
I thought I'd hear with you guys first though.
Just like before, I'd like to hear how well it would be able to run PCSX2 as well as some of the newer PC games (Maybe not Crysis 2 and that stuff though... =P).
Here are some of the specs:
Computer model: HP Pavilion Elite HPE-530sc
Processor: Intel Core i7 2600 (4 cores) @ 3.4GHz
RAM (DDR3): 8 GB
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 420 - 2 GB
The only thing I'm on the edge about is the GPU.
I've asked around and heard meh-things about it.
But I really don't know much about these things. I just copied from the specifications-page from the store I'm buying it in. =P
Anyway, what do you think? Does it look alright?
Also, I'd like to know if the GPU supports 3D and Hardware T&L and all that fancy-schmancy stuff that my old computer doesn't...
Thanks once again, guys.
OK I am quite the noob.
I went out and grabbed an ASUS i7 quad core @2GHz and turbo boosting, with NVIDIA GTX460 M, 6 GB Ram (Windows 7)
I tried FF12 and got sub-par results, is it my machine or is it my settings?
What specific settings should I be using?
Before we can recommend settings, first say what your current settings are. Also, are you running a laptop by any chance? If so make sure to disable all of windows power saving features because they can make a huge difference on laptops with performance.
@ Yoshi 3000:
You've gone in the right direction with the processor. Overclocking aside, that's the best thing you can currently go with.
That GPU is actually very comparable with that HD 6570. Native res will usually be fine, and higher res is possible with some games.
@ TupaAngel:
Most likely your settings, because that Sandy Bridge (?) processor is pretty potent, and that GPU is, too. You should still consider using Speedhacks to help the modest clockrates, and be mindful of the resolution, though. You may find you GPU to actually limit you in more and more cases as you begin to exceed 2x and 3x scaling. I'd recommend staying on native until you get full speed, then you'll easily see where your limits are as you incease the resolution.
You should read the
Configuration Guide to learn about settings. In particular, using
Speedhacks and
Graphics plugin configuration. Speedhacks should definitely help with your speed. If you're not sure which to change, try the
Preset options on the bottom (new as of PCSX2 0.9.8).
Umm Hello I am expecting i7 2600k i thought it was the best processor that isn't 1000 dollars someone said yesterday that black edition AMD is better for some reason. Can I over clock this processor like a pro or what? He said you can't over clock i7 2600k is he newb?
